RK Preferred builds paver patios for newer homes in Waxhaw. Many of these backyards have only a small builder slab or nothing at all, and the patio is the first real outdoor project. On new-construction lots, getting the ground right first is what keeps the patio level.
New construction ground
Builders often leave compacted fill, thin topsoil, and grading that sends water toward the house. Before a patio goes in, we check the slope and the drainage, regrade where it’s needed, and then build the patio on an excavated, compacted crushed-stone base pitched away from the house.
A first backyard, planned as one
A typical first project is a paver patio off the back door, often with a seat wall, steps down to the lawn and a fire pit, then planting and sod to soften a bare lot. Designing it all together, with a 2D plan and 3D rendering, means the patio is the right size and shape for what comes next, even if some pieces are built later.
Shade and privacy on open lots
Newer lots often have few mature trees, so a new patio can sit in full sun with neighbors in view. A pergola over the dining area adds shade, and evergreen screening along the property line adds privacy as it grows. Both are planned with the patio so the posts, beds and lighting line up.
A walkway from the driveway or side gate to the new patio is often part of a first project, so guests aren’t walking across the lawn to get to the backyard.
Pavers we install
Most of our patios are Unilock. Beacon Hill Smooth and Treo suit the clean lines of many newer homes; Copthorne works for walkways and borders. We also install Techo-Bloc and Belgard pavers, and travertine.
Questions from Waxhaw homeowners
My builder left a bare backyard. Where do we start?
Usually with grading and drainage, then the patio and planting. Rob walks it with you at the site visit.
Can the patio be expanded later?
Yes. Pavers make it easy to extend a patio or tie in a walkway later.
How far is Waxhaw from you?
About 10 miles from our yard in Indian Trail.
